Walking Trips

Here at Challenge Running we also organise walking trips, these are social weekends in either the Welsh Mountains or the Lake District.

They are about getting out into the mountains and exploring and learning, you can practice navigation (with our help) or just enjoy the days walking in the mountains and learning about the mountain environment from your leader.

They are family friendly and the exact itinerary will depend on the ability and experience of the group as well as the weather condidtions.

It's a no pressure environment perfect if you are new to the mountains or just want a relaxed weekend in the mountains with friends.

Your Leaders

Your Leaders will be Lindley the owner and director for Challenge Running who is a UK Mountain Leader and has lots of outdoor experience.

Assisting will be Maxine Lock who is UK Hill and Moorland Leader qualified also with plenty of outdoor experience.

Both are experienced first aiders and DBS checked and the leader on your walk will be fully insured through the Mountain Training Association Insurance scheme

Kit List

Although the trips are in the summer the weather in the mountains can be very changeable, it could be warm and sunny in the valley but still cold and wet on the top.

So in order to be prepared we have a short minimum kit list we would like you to take/wear each day on the trip.

  • Sturdy trail/fell running shoes or walking boots/shoes with good grip
  • Comfortable walking trousers or shorts if it's hot.
  • Comfortable long sleeve base layer or T-Shirt if its hot
  • Wooly hat or buff to keep your head warm
  • Warm gloves
  • Waterproof trousers and jacket with taped seams or Paramo Analogy clothing
  • Spare long sleeve base layer or fleece top
  • Spare leggings or trousers if you have shorts on
  • 1-2ltrs of water in a water bottle
  • Small rucksac to carry spare kit and food or personal items in.

If you have any questions about the kit list just message us.

If you need anything extra specific for your walk we will advise you before the trip.

Plus obviously spare stuff for the second day if it gets wet on the first day and all the usual stuff you need for a weekend away.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is there an age limit, can I bring kids and young people on the trip?
  • No there is no age limit but for anyone under 16 you wish to bring on the trip we ask you email us and have a chat as whether we can accept them on the trip depends on ages and abilities and we may have to arrange special accomodation such as a family room option. This obviously may incur additional costs for seperate accomodation.
  • How difficult are the walks and terrain?
  • We will cater and tailor the routes and terrain based on the groups ages and abilities as well as previous experiences. Each day we will have the ability to vary the route if needed and reduce the difficulty or increase the challenge. We have a leader and assistant leader on each course so we can split the group for a short period if say some want to try a difficult bit and some want to take an easier option. This way we all get challenged within our own levels
  • How fit do you need to be?
  • Anyone of average fitness can take part in our walks, ideally you should be capable of walking for 6+ hours at an easy pace on rough paths. We could be out for 8 hours on the long day and 4 hours on the easy day but we will have plenty of breaks and rest stops to take in the views and stunning scenery.
